These are the rules for using Need Ears, a free service. By creating an account or uploading, you agree to these terms.

Who can use Need Ears

You must be at least 13 years old. Anyone can listen without an account. You need an account to upload or comment.

Your music is yours

• You upload only music you made yourself, or that you have the right to share. You confirm this each time you upload.
• You keep all rights to your music and your comments. We own nothing of what you post.
• AI-generated music is not allowed. You confirm that your track is not generated by AI when you upload.

What you let Need Ears do with it

When you upload a track or write a comment, you give Need Ears a non-exclusive license to store it, convert it (for example into a format that streams well, and to draw the waveform), show it and stream it, only so that the service can work. This license ends when you delete the track or comment, or your account. A copy may remain in provider backups for a short time after that.

Tracks are public. Anyone with the link, signed in or not, can listen. Need Ears does not offer downloads, but we can't prevent someone from recording what they hear. Don't upload anything you aren't comfortable with being heard by everyone.

Need Ears does not keep your original file, only the converted stream. Keep your own originals.

What we can do

• We can hide or remove tracks, comments and accounts that break these terms or the community guidelines.
• We don't scan uploads automatically, so we rely on reports. We can remove a track if we reasonably believe it is AI-generated. If you think we're wrong, email contact@needears.com, and we'll take another look.
• Copyright complaints are handled as described on the copyright page.

What we don't promise

Need Ears is a small project, provided "as is" and for free. It can go down, change or lose data. We do our best, but we can't guarantee that the service is always available or error-free, and to the extent the law allows we are not liable for losses that come from using it. Nothing here limits rights you have by law.

Your account

You can download your data and delete your account at any time in Settings. Deleting your account deletes your tracks, comments and the rest of your content. Read more in the privacy policy.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The date at the top shows the latest update. For big changes we'll say so on the site or by email.
